Ener Chiu started with EBALDC in 2004. As a staff member of the Real Estate Development (RED) department, he successfully completed more than 375 units of affordable rental and ownership housing, and medical clinic space totaling more than $130 million in total development costs. In 2014, he piloted a new role within EBALDC focused on Commercial Planning and Business Support Services, to develop more strategic alignment between EBALDC’s 300,000 square foot commercial real estate portfolio and the rest of the organization’s programmatic goals around healthy neighborhoods. In 2016, Ener moved back to RED as the Associate Director, and is currently in development on two projects with 151 affordable apartments within larger mixed-income concepts totaling 760 homes.
Ener was a founding member of Old Oakland Neighbors; a Founding Family Member of Yu Ming Charter School; and served on the Investor Oversight Committee the New Parkway Theater. Currently, he is the Board Vice President of East Bay Housing Organizations and a Steering Committee Member for the Oakland Chinatown Coalition as well as the Friends of Lincoln Square Park. Ener holds a Master’s degree in City and Regional Planning from UC Berkeley, and lives in Oakland with his wife, two daughters, and pit bull.
