María E. Hernández-Torrales, Esq. holds an LL.M. in environmental law from Vermont Law School. She also holds an M.A. in Business Education in Higher Education from New York University. She studied both her Bachelor Degree and the Juris Doctor at the University of Puerto Rico (UPR), Río Piedras Campus. For 30 years she worked at the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority where she occupied upper management positions being the latest position Human Resources Director and Corporate Secretary of the Governing Board. Since 2005 she has been doing volunteer legal work for the Proyecto ENLACE del Caño Martín Peña and for the Fideicomiso de la Tierra del Caño Martín Peña, the first CLT in Puerto Rico. She was one of the lead counsels in the drafting of the CLT regulations and since 2009 chairs the Board of Trustees of the CLT. Since 2008 attorney Hernández-Torrales has worked as a clinical professor at the University of Puerto Rico School of Law where she teaches the Community Economic Development: Organization and Self Management Section of the Clinic.
